Elizabeth, 1590, the Court of the King's Bench were agreed that these
names were all one name). Johanna Stanley was the daughter of Sir
William Stanley, of Holt, and he was the son of Thomas Stanley and

Hezekiah Nobles 1, 2 was born 3 before 1763 in Pitt Co. North Carolina. He died 20 May 1832 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Hezekiah married Elsie Nicholson on Feb 1786.

Much of the Nobles information below and elsewhere in this database (as noted in sources) has been contributed by fellow descendant Betty Jean Neathery of Arcadia, Louisiana ( bwneath@iamerica.net ).  She in turn received considerable material from the late William Bailey, Jr. of Houston.  The information below is drawn from 1985 letters from Bill to Jean, and from Jean's 1998 book "The Winding Trail of Nobles", all in possession of John Robison.

Hezekiah was Revolutionary Soldier - he was a musician in Old N.C. Line of Continental Army, 5th Regt., William's Company. (DAR index).  The fact that he was a musician (probably a drummer) suggests he was too young to be a regular soldier.

Information received from Betty Jean Neathery, another descendant - July 2002:

Number 1:  John Nobles died near Magnolia, AL (the actual town was in Macon Co AL, but he died in Pike County outside Magnolia) on or about March 12, 1855.  This is according to the admin of his estate that I found in Pike County several years ago.  My proof is a receipt for a coffin made:

"James M. Nobles Admin of John Nobles Dec'd Dr (debit) to F J Stevens for making a Coffin and Box - - - March 13th 1855 - - - $10.00"

"Receve. of Ja's M Nobles Admin of the Estate of John Nobles dec'd ten dollars in full of all demand       October 2, 1855 (signed) F J Stevens" (Pike County Probate Court, Book 24, pg 293, photocopied by B W Neathery, 15 May 1997)

Number 3:  John Nobles was born 28 December 1790 according to an affadavit he signed in Pike County, AL on 11 August 1851.  He was trying to help his mother obtain a pension for his father's Rev War service.  (transcript of Hezekiah Nobles, Revolutionary War Claim W 6844, sent to B W Neathery by William H. "Bill" Bailey, Jr. [now dec'd] 02 December 1988)

Just a few items to whet your appetite!  Bill Bailey also shared with me much about John's mother's family - the Nicholson and Whitehead families - that I'll be glad to share with you, if you'd like. Unfortunately, I still haven't found out anything about the siblings and
parents of Pharaby Haygood.  She's one of my mysteries!

In 1998, I did a book for our family that shows many of the descendants of John and Pharaby through their son, James M. Nobles (my ancestor).  I'm going to check your website again to see if I've gotten Eliza's children right!  The info I have on her was obtained from Bill Bailey.  Bill was a descendant of John's brother, Luke Nobles.

Mary Nobles 1, 2 was born about 1794 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. She died before 1832 in South Carolina.

We know Mary Nobles Collins died before 1832 because her father's will mentions her husband and son.  See will of Hezekiah.

The following August 2002 letter is from Beth Collins:

My husband is a direct descendant of Gibson Collins who married Hezekiah's daughter Mary.
. . .
I have that she and Gibson were married in 1820 and that she died in 1822 in Newberry County, South Carolina.  They had a son James Collins who married Susannah Harrison.  James was a private in the Civil War.  He was captured in the Battle of Seccessionville on James Island in 1862.  He was shipped to Fort Columbus, New York on a POW prison ship.  He died in New York.  I have lineage from James and well as Gibson.  I do not know who Gibson's parents were, but he was born and raised in the Kirksey Section of Edgefield County, South Carolina.  This is where my husband's parents were born and raised.
. . .
Gibson is buried in the Mountain Creek Baptist Cemetery.  He was born in 1792 and died in 1881.
